EVO – Track Car of the Year 2011 group test

Mono features in this month’s EVO magazine in the 2011 Track Car of the Year group test.
The test took place at Bedford Autodrome this summer as BAC were finalising production settings ahead of sign-off. As Mono was in pre-production guise at the time of writing it was not considered in this year’s verdict. Features writer, Roger Green and his team were keen however, to see how BAC’s lightweight shaped up against the current track competition.
Green was impressed by the quality of Mono, the first serious single-seater for the road, “the finish wouldn’t look out of place in a hypercar showroom.”
On track Mono, “corners hard and flat”….” it has a deftness of touch and accuracy that promises great things”
In conclusion Green writes, “The BAC Mono impressed us more than any other start-up project has before. The level of engineering alone makes it covetable and it backs up its presence with sharp on-track ability. It’s the kind of machine that rewards and challenges in equal measure, and on this showing the future for BAC looks very bright indeed.”
The prototype Mono performed admirably, lapping the 1.8mile circuit in 1m18.3s, in what was one of its first timed sessions of the summer. Just 0.6 seconds behind the 475 bhp Atom V8, Mono lapped a full 2.3 seconds faster than the previously tested McLaren MP4-12C and 2.7 seconds faster than EVO Performance Car of the Year, the Porsche 997 GT3 RS 4.0. After months of improvements carried out following the EVO test BAC engineers expect the production Mono to lap even quicker.
