One of Just 29 Porsche 959 Sports Ever Built Is Going to Auction

Lin 1/12/2017 3:59 am @ Union City, California – I was a huge Porsche fan as a kid even to this day.  Porsche 959 was a technological marvel and I also absolutely loved its design…  I can talk about it forever but I’ll let the articles below do that.  I will also post the a Chinese version below.  Both articles are talking about the same special 959 S.  Actually the Chinese version seems like it is mostly just a translated article from Road and Track but it doesn’t mention R&T at all.  Kind of shady if you ask me…


If you’re planning on bidding when this thing hits RM’s Paris Auction, plan to bring at least $1.6 million.

In 1986, the Porsche 959 looked like something that came from outer space. Sure, Ferrari answered by launching the F40 a year later—but while the Ferrari was a super light racing prototype for the road, the 959 was way more technologically advanced, a rocket ship built by Porsche’s best engineers on a platform that was over two decades old at the time.

Featuring an air-cooled 450-horsepower flat-six and four-wheel drive, Porsche built just 292 examples of the halo cars, most of which left the factory in Komfort specification with a self-leveling suspension and a full leather interior. But those who wanted to go even faster could opt for the Sport version, which was some 220 lbs. lighter thanks to a conventional coilover suspension, no air-conditioning, and cloth upholstery as well as a full leather-wrapped roll cage. With those modifications, 0-60mph came in 3.6 seconds while the top speed climbed up to 198mph. Only 29 buyers chose the option.

Later on, Porsche offered several upgrades ranging from 515 to 585hp packages to reach 211mph with the 959 in 1988, handily beating the Ferrari F40.

This particular car offered by RM Sotheby’s in Paris is the 11th Sport built, with 515 horsepower and 11,536 miles on its clock today. It was purchased new by California Porsche dealer and racer Vasek Polak’s son, Vasek Polak Jr., who picked it up personally from Stuttgart and drove it around Europe before returning to America. Of course he could only import his Porsche thanks to the “Show and Display” law that Bill Gates, another keen 959 owner, helped to get passed.

RM Sotherby’s expects this rare piece of automotive history to fetch between $1.6 and $2.1 million without reserve when it crosses the block on February 8 in Paris. There, you can also grab a Ferrari F40 estimated to go for one million bucks. But in case you want a 959 for an F40’s worth of money, you better hurry. This 1987 959 Komfort goes under the hammer in Arizona in just nine days.

Group B組的人間凶器,全球29輛Porsche 959 Sport即將拍賣

論及Porsche,第一個所聯想到的即是強悍的性能、俐落的操控性,而說到矗立於整個Porsche車款頂端的車款,那便是於2010年一登場就勇破紐柏林最速單圈6分57秒的918 Spyder,至今7年過去了,他仍然是紐柏林最速單圈排行榜上的第三位,而在他之上的也僅有超輕量單座賽車的Radical SR8了,如此接近完美的918 Spyder並非橫空出世,他的設計靈感正是來自即將在2017年2月8日於RM蘇富比拍賣會上登場的Porsche初代蛙王「959」。

1986年對於Porsche來說是相當特別的一年,因為那年正好是初代蛙王Porsche 959誕生的一年,959不僅是Porsche向世界展示造車技術以及性能的完美平台,細數搭載於959上的主動式懸吊、電子式四輪驅動系統、胎壓感知器、超輕量化鎂鋁合金輪圈,959更是將整個汽車產業推向了20世紀,即使當時所開出的30萬美金售價根本就是「天價中的天價」,但儘管這是個天價,但Porsche仍表示這個價錢根本還不到生產成本的一半,甚至讓公司營運上虧損了一個大洞。

究竟如此驚異的車款為何橫空出世?由於1980年代中,越野賽事相當炙熱,而主要原因便是拼鬥最為火熱的Group B組賽事,由於對於賽車的改裝沒有任何限制,就現今的說法亦可解讀成「無限改裝」組,你能想像一部部速度快得嚇人的工廠賽車飛馳過黃土路面的視覺衝擊感嗎?那決無法用現今的WRC來比擬,別懷疑Porsche參加過Rally,在當年就連Ferrari都無法忍受Group B的誘惑了呢。

而Porsche 959所誕生的原因即是為了參加Group B組而生,而為了Group B組的一個規範「參賽車必須是量產數超過200輛的市售」,959才因此有著市售車版本。不難看出959是基於911車系所打造而來,但959與911是完全不一樣的猛獸,959共有兩個版本,分別為「性能版959 Sport」以及「豪華版959 Komfort」,兩個車型的心臟皆為一具排氣量2.8L的六缸水平對臥引擎,同時還有兩具渦輪增壓器,這具引擎可供給450hp最大馬力,並由電子式四輪驅動系統平均的傳遞給四個車輪,在959 s上可在3.7秒內衝刺至100km/h,極速可達317km/h,就算以現今的標準來看,959依然是部不折不扣的道路猛獸,這也讓959 s一登場利馬成為當代全球最快的市售超級跑車。

959所搭載的眾多科技959更是現今Porsche發展的基礎,450hp的狂暴馬力可歸功於它的雙渦輪增壓系統,兩個渦輪分別負責低速與高速的輸出,車輛由靜止開始行進後會先啟用第一個渦輪,但轉速夠高足以產出更多推動渦輪的廢氣時,第一具渦輪所多餘的廢氣才會填充至第二具渦輪,此時約在引擎轉速4300rpm,即可感受到強烈的爆炸性推力。

儘管Group B組的賽事之中,最富名聲的是由Audi所研發的quattro全時四驅底盤,不過在當時quattro底盤大部分仍為機械式作動,而959一登場便搭載著電子式四驅底盤,行車電腦可分別控制前後輪輸出扭力,後輪扭力輸出比更可達100%,同時,1986年誕生的959更以搭載著「主動式」軟硬高低可調懸吊系統,隨著車速的增加,行車電腦便會自動調整避震器阻尼,同時在車高部分也透過液壓裝置來調整,當車速達150km/h時才會降到最低車高,如同貼地飛行一般。

而959 Sport以及959 Komfort兩個版本最大的差異即在內裝,959 Sport是確確實實的競技版車型,包括車內地毯、空調系統、音響系統等等均全數拆除,只為了求更輕量化,至於959 Komfort則較有個超級跑車的樣子,上敘所說的內裝均完整健在,內裝布料也由皮革縫製等等,也因此在1986年到1988年之間所生產的284輛中,超過半數皆為Komfort版本,而Sport版本僅有29輛,其中一輛便是照片中的主角,這也促使了959 Sport硬是比959 Komfort更高的稀有度以及更高昂的售價。

而這部底盤編號011的959 S,除了原車原漆以及全車原廠之外,他更有著一段故事,它的第一手主人是一名Porsche加州經銷商Vasek Polak的兒子Vasek Polak Jr.,Polak當時親自前往Porsche的故鄉斯圖加特牽走這部959 s,並一路開著這部車橫跨歐洲,並坐船返回美國,不過礙於當時的法規,959無法在美國合法上路,因此Polak只好動用一點關係將車輛成功進口到美國,而據悉這部959 s更是第一部踏入美國的959。

幾年後Polak將它賣給了一名收藏家,隨後這名收藏家又在2008年十賣給了現任車主,現任車主是一名瑞士的Porsche收藏家,從那之後這部959 s變成為他所有收藏品之中最耀眼的一部,完整的程度甚至令Porsche原廠都向他租借並放在Porsche於斯圖加特所設立的博物館之中,而在2010年918 Spyder發表時所舉辦的特別展覽上,也同樣商借這部959 s到場展覽,據RM蘇富比表示,這部959 s至今從未變更任何配置,從未經過任何改裝,甚至全車依然保持原漆,這輛959將以「沒有底價」的方式拍賣,結標金額恐怕相當可觀。
